Gardener’s Delight!

My earliest memory of gardening is of winning a prize for my ‘Garden on a Plate’ entry which incorporated, amongst other things, sprouting carrot tops and a small, round mirror for a pond with a plastic duck from my farmyard set ‘swimming’ on it. At the age of seven I grew radishes, pretty pastel-coloured Cornflowers, Candytufts and Sweetpeas in my own little patch of ground in our garden.

I enjoy seeing what wildlife is attracted to the garden and remember, as a little girl, being lifted up to take a peek at a robin’s nest in an apple tree.

My grandad kept bees and taught me all about what clever creatures they are and how important they are as pollinators.

All my gardening experiences have offered me the opportunity to look closely at how plants and animals co-exist and support one another through the seasons. I find the process of tending a garden, sowing seeds and nurturing plants as well as sitting back to watch them grow, is of great benefit to both body and soul.

The images on this page show some of the ‘delights’ found in the garden which inspire me to draw and paint.
