Bird spotting in Walthamstow!

Organised by Collect Connect, the Bird Magnet Exhibition forms part of the E17 Art Trail in London. One hundred magnets, including two of mine, will be ‘exhibited’ on 8th September 2012. This is an innovative idea for a temporary art exhibition where artists’ images of birds have been made into magnets and are displayed on lamp posts, railings and indeed anything metallic in a public space. Anyone passing by who happens to see a magnet may, if they wish, take it away with them. (You don’t have to be an ornithologist to spot them but being ‘eagle-eyed’ might help!)

I enjoy watching and listening to native birds and they often find their way into my artwork. I am especially keen on Crows as they have such a distinct voice and when in flight, I like the way their wing feathers splay out like outstretched fingers. Alongside a collection of abandoned nests and egg shells on my mantel-piece sits a jug of feathers. One of my most precious finds is a small Jay feather which I found many years ago.

The images on this page show some of my collection of bird-related finds and two pictures from my ‘Bird in the hand’ series.
