My seashell returns to the waves!

I was excited to visit the Boat Project in Hastings this weekend as it continues its maiden voyage around the South East of England. This is a Lone Twin project and forms part of the Cultural Olympiad. I spoke to Gregg and Gary a.k.a. Lone Twin who explained that they had the idea for it twelve years ago. However, it is only in the last year or so that donations of wooden items and the stories behind them have been collected and the boat, now named: Collective Spirit, has been made and taken to the waters. It is a beautiful concept, design and indeed piece of art as well as being a seafaring vessel.

It seems to me that making a boat from an assortment of variously shaped objects was a bit like assembling a giant jigsaw puzzle. My donation of a jigsaw puzzle piece, illustrated with my drawing of a seashell  that I found on the beach near my home, seemed therefore only appropiate!

The images on this page show my donation recorded in the Boat Project book and a section of the boat’s exterior.
